Coastal Highway crippled by heavy rains; Repairs underway

Posted: Monday, June 17, 2024. 7:43 am CST.

By Horace Palacio: The Coastal Highway has sustained significant damage after being pummeled by heavy rainfall overnight. Numerous sections of the road are now impassable due to washouts and debris, leaving motorists stranded and traffic severely disrupted.

Authorities are urging travelers to avoid the Coastal Highway if possible and seek alternate routes. Road crews are currently working to assess the extent of the damage and initiate repairs, but it’s unclear when the highway will be fully operational again.

Calls are being made for urgent investment in improved drainage systems and robust road maintenance strategies to mitigate the effects of future downpours.
