Champions Club Atletico start off defence of National Amateur Interdistrict Championship 2024 with a win

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Defending Champions Club Atletico pulled off a 2-1 win over Stann Creek’s New Site HD Hustlers at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday as the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) 2024 kicked off.

Marlon Miranda opened the scoring in the 14th minute and Tyriq Ciego increased the lead to 2-0 in the 55th. Cion Augustine pulled one back almost immediately in the 58th, but the Dangriga side ran out of ‘hustle’ and had to settle for the loss.

Belize City’s Tut Bay stole a point at the Norman Broaster Stadium in Cayo with a 1-1 draw against 7 Miles. Frankli Godoy scored for Tut Bay in the 40th minute. However, Keelon Vasquez drew the game level in the 84th.

Conquerors defended the home turf at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro routing the visiting Santa Elena United 6-0 in the second game of the night on Saturday. Conquerors constructed their win on a brace by Alejandro Carrillo (1’, 36’) and a goal apiece from Jesse Smith (13’), Ian Pou (48’), Jose Chimal (49’), and Robert Nah (70’).

In the first game, the visiting Mi Gente from Orange Walk defeated Terror Squad 2-1 on goals by Francisco Rivas (55’) and Miguel Yco (82’). Armando Pop (76’) scored for Terror Squad.

South at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda, Corozal’s Copper Bank exacted a 1-0 win over San Marcos on a lone goal scored by Luis Leonardo Sanchez in the 47th minute.

Homestanding Garage FC managed a 1-1 draw at home at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence against Toledo’s Legends. Luis Salgado scored for Garage in the 61st before Jeffon Apolonio tied for Legends in the 87th.

On Sunday, Corozal’s Calcutta Bulls beat Yo Creek United 2-0 at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk on a brace by Enoch Martinez who scored in the 49th minute and in stoppage time in the 90’+5.

Caesar Ridge were unable to defend the home fort at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City and fell 3-0 to the visiting Napoles from Belmopan. Jalen Myers converted a brace, scoring in the 45’+1 and 74’ before Nigel Carbajal secured the 3-0 win in the 86’.

In the final game of the opening weekend, the EZ Griga Conquerors easily dispatched the Mid-South 501 Spartans 4-1 at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga. The Spartans started off briskly nailing the Griga Conquerors in the fourth minute on a strike by Marshawn Lozano, but their drive fizzled out just as it started.

By the ninth minute, the Griga Conquerors levelled the score on a goal by Dirrell Salguero and never looked back. Darroll Lambey (35’), Shedrick Swazo (52’), and Aaron Estero (53) put the game away securing the first three points of the home and away games for the Dangriga side.

The return matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23.

Of the 18 teams, the top sixteen (the nine winners and the best six losing teams) will qualify to the second round.

Toledo – Legends FC and San Marcos FC
