By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Griga Cycling Club reported on Wednesday that the driver of the vehicle that hit two of three riders who were training on the Hummingbird Highway on Monday, June 10, have been compensated for lost and damaged items and the bike that was damaged has been repaired.

Reynaldo White suffered a fractured shoulder and his bike was severely damaged while Tamron Morris lost his speedometer and his bike back wheel was damaged.

According to Griga Cycling Club Secretary Annis Alma Gordon, Reynaldo White, 18, and team captain Tamron Morris, 17, were knocked down from behind just after 1:00 pm about five miles from Dangriga as they were returning from a 40-mile training ride that had taken them to Mile 20. Deshane Cacho, 16, escaped unhurt as he was riding a bit ahead of White and Morris, but was quite shaken.

“Today the parents of Tamron Morris and Reynaldo White are well satisfied that the Driver Mr. David Whyte reached out to them,” Gordon reported on Wednesday in a social media post.

“Tamron Morris was compensated for his missing speedometer, damaged back wheel, and torn Griga Cycling Club Jersey. While Reynaldo’s bike was taken to Ordonez Bike Shop in Belize City by Mr. Whyte. We informed him that is the only shop that we take our bikes to be repaired. A complete repair was done to Reynaldo’s bike. Damaged parts and wheel were changed. His damaged phone was replaced as well. We are sure that Mr. Whyte will reach out to Reynaldo for the cost of his torn Jersey and broken shades as he is a genuine man who accepted that it was his fault and apologized over and over to them.”

Gordon said the cyclists and the Griga Cycling Club were appreciative of the concern expressed by their fans.

“Thanks again for all the prayers. Special Thank You to Mr. Adrian Gongora the good samaritan in the black vehicle. God is good and great, we thank him daily for his guidance and protection. Once again we beg drivers to slow down when you see cyclists on the highway.”

Gongora assisted the riders at the time of the accident.

While Morris and Cacho are back on the road, White was sidelined for six weeks and will miss the National Road Championships that will be held on June 23 and 30.
