By Breaking Belize News Staff: Four foreigners are awaiting deportation from Belize after being convicted of illegal entry. The group, consisting of three Azerbaijanis and one Brazilian, entered Belize via the Mopan River on June 19, 2024. Each was fined $1,005 and ordered to leave the country.

Two Belizeans, Jasmine Margaret Espat and Samuel Alexander Peters, were convicted of facilitating the illegal entry. They were fined $1,005 each. Espat remains in custody until her fine is paid, while Peters has until July 31, 2024, to settle his fine.

The couple claimed financial hardship led them to assist the foreigners for $500, an offer they believed would not cause harm. Despite their guilty pleas, the magistrate condemned their actions but refrained from imposing jail sentences due to it being their first offense. The foreigners remain in immigration custody pending their deportation.
