Inspector Christopher Martinez’s trial delayed after his attorney steps down

Posted: Friday, June 21, 2024. 6:16 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The sensational trial against Inspector of Police Christopher Martinez, accused of wounding Aaron Flowers, faced delays on Friday after Martinez’s attorney stepped down, leaving him unrepresented. Martinez, charged with assaulting Flowers with a padlock at the Racoon Street Police Station, had his trial adjourned as he seeks new legal representation.

The trial has been marred by allegations from Flowers of harassment and bribery attempts by police officers. These claims were investigated but remain unproven against Martinez. The DPP emphasized the seriousness of the situation but noted no direct evidence linking Martinez to the alleged interference.

The case will resume on June 27, 2024, with Martinez given two weeks to secure a new attorney. Meanwhile, concerns about potential misconduct by an attorney claiming to represent Flowers will be addressed in court on June 28, 2024.
