By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brazil missed two penalty kicks and Uruguay beat them 4-2 in the penalty shootout at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday qualifying for the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 Semifinals.

Uruguay held up well after Nahitán Nández was red carded in the 74th minute denying Brazil and forcing the penalty shootout after a 0-0 match.

The hero was goalkeeper Sergio Rochet who stopped Brazil’s first penalty kick taken by Éder Militão.

José María Giménez missed for Uruguay’s third penalty, but Brazil’s Douglas Luiz hit the post, leaving Uruguay’s Ugarte to slam the ball in for the Uruguayans to burst into wild celebration.

Uruguay will now play Colombia, who earlier demolished Panama 5-0, in the second Semifinal at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 10.

The first Semifinal will see defending champions Argentina face Canada at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9.
