By Breaking Belie News Staff: A political debate turned ugly at the Michael Finnegan Market as a clash between two businessmen ended in allegations of assault. Leroy Young, 63, of Burrell Boom Village, has been accused of spitting in the face of Joshua Rivero, 38, during a heated argument over “Trump vs. Biden.”
Young, known as the “Herbs man” for his herb-selling business, appeared in court to face a charge of common assault. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of $200 plus one surety of the same amount. His next court date is set for August 9, 2024.
The incident occurred on June 28, 2024, when Rivero was at his booth in the market. The conversation between the two men escalated, leading to the alleged spitting incident. According to Rivero, Young stopped in front of his stall and hawked up loogie which caught him in the left side of his face.
Rivero immediately reported the incident to market security, and police arrested Young.
