By Breaking Belize News Staff: Erwin Hamilton, 26, has been acquitted of two counts of robbery related to a broad daylight armed robbery at Reimers Feed Mill on the Phillip Goldson Highway during the pandemic. The robbery, which took place on September 30, 2021, involved three masked men stealing $7,821.49.
Hamilton, a Belize City resident, was found not guilty by the Senior Magistrate of Court #3, who cited insufficient evidence to establish his guilt. The court questioned the reliability of the footage provided, noting its poor quality and the inability to clearly identify the masked robbers.
Despite the Crown’s efforts to link Hamilton to the robbery through witness descriptions and circumstantial evidence, the Magistrate ruled that the evidence was insufficient. Hamilton, who was unrepresented during the trial, maintained his innocence throughout.
During the robbery, three men held the manager and employees at gunpoint, taking cash and escaping on a motorcycle and on foot. While multiple footages captured the incident, none could definitively identify the robbers. Additionally, no employees were able to recognize the perpetrators.
