Belize PEACE Movement still awaiting judgment on redistricting case

Posted: Saturday, August 3, 2024. 12:19 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Attorney Arthur Saldivar, who represents the members of the Belize PEACE Movement in Case 55 of 2019, says High Court Justice Patricia Darby is still writing her judgment.

Arguments were made in May ahead of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill being presented to the House of Representatives. A judgment was due in July but is still outstanding.

Saldivar told us in a phone interview that the judge is being considered and thorough in her ruling considering the impact it will have on Belizean elections and politics.

No date has been set for the ruling while the Bill is in consultation awaiting second reading in the House of Representatives.
