By Breaking Belize News Staff: Moisés Lobos, a 46-year-old construction worker, appeared in court still seemingly under the influence to face charges of public drunkenness. Lobos, a resident of Holy Emmanuel Street, Belize City, was arraigned late Wednesday evening before a Magistrate in Court #5.
Lobos had been found intoxicated on a public street in the Belama area the previous day and was held overnight in police custody. During his arraignment, the Magistrate, noting his demeanor and apparent intoxication, asked Lobos if he was okay. Lobos pleaded guilty to the charge of public drunkenness.
The Magistrate fined Lobos $25 plus a $5 court fee, giving him until August 15, 2024, to pay. Failure to pay would result in a one-week imprisonment. However, it was discovered that Lobos also owed the court $600 from previous fines.
Lobos was able to pay only $200 of his outstanding debt by the end of the day. He was granted a one-month adjournment to pay the remaining balance.
