More details emerge in Belize City fisherman’s slaying

By Horace Palacio: A Belize City fisherman was shot and killed in an ambush on East Collet Canal early Sunday morning, police said.

The victim, 54-year-old Mark Francisco, was reportedly preparing for a fishing trip with a group of men when a lone gunman approached their vehicle and opened fire. Francisco was struck once in the head and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and while no motive has been released, they are urging anyone with information to come forward.

This latest shooting adds to Belize City’s growing homicide rate, which has been a major concern for residents and authorities alike.
