Police seek public’s help in solving targeted killing of Belize City fisherman

By Horace Palacio: A fisherman was fatally shot in Belize City on Sunday morning, marking another instance of gun violence in the old capital.

Mark Francisco, 51, was preparing for a fishing trip with two other men in front of #63 Cemetery Lane on Yarborough Road when a silver SUV approached. An unidentified individual exited the vehicle and fired a single shot, striking Francisco. The assailant then fled the scene.

Francisco was rushed to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:54 a.m. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are investigating the incident as a targeted killing.

Forensic teams have processed the scene of the crime, and police are following up on leads. They are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation.
