By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As they prepare for the second Concacaf Central American Cup match, defending champions Port Layola open the six-team 2024-2025 Premier League of Belize (PLB) Opening Season against the returning San Pedro Pirates.
The match is scheduled for 4:00 pm at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.
Port won the 2023-24 Closing Championship over Verdes and gained their ticket to the Central American Cup on cumulative regular season points over Altitude.
Hurting from their Central American Cup 4-1 loss to Guatemala’s Antigua GFC, they will be out to smack San Pedro as they prepare to take on Honduran powerhouse Olimpia on Thursday.
On the other hand, the Pirates, back after a one-year hiatus, have regained a number of their players, such as Honduran goalkeeper Selvin Zerón Sagastume and Moises Hernandez, and have added Gabriel Ramos and Aldin Forman from Altitude.
In the season opener on Saturday, Progresso blanked the Belmopan Bandits 3-0 in Orange Walk.
The third match will pit Verdes against Wagiya, also at 4:00 pm on Sunday at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
