By Aaron Humes: Former Belize City Councilor Deannie Requeña says she is more grateful than ever to be alive after not only being stabbed but also robbed and left for dead on the George Price Highway on Sunday afternoon.
Posting on social media, Requeña publicly thanked “the gentleman and his young child for stopping and assisting me yesterday. I didn’t manage to get his name, but I am thankful.”
Describing the attack, Requeña said, “While one was stabbing and punching me, the other was breaking multiple glass on my vehicle and cutting the tires, stole $3,000 cash out of my purse and my iPhone. A weapon was pointed in my direction and I want the public to know this! While the injuries will heal, my mental state is damaged.”
She added, “They say God gives his strongest soldiers the hardest fight. Sometimes I accept the lessons and learn from them, but this one is way too much for me mentally. I am doing okay physically for the most part, but what occurred has damaged me mentally. I try my best to remain calm for the sake of my child. But how much can a person take?”
According to Requeña, she has suffered great personal trauma in the past three and a half years including losing close family members and getting caught in two road traffic accidents.
Requeña stated that her alleged attackers are known to her and are now reportedly in police custody.
