By Breaking Belize News Staff: A domestic dispute led to a court conviction for Victor Aviles, 34, who emotionally recounted how discovering his common-law wife’s alleged infidelity drove him to violence. Aviles, a father of three, pleaded guilty to wounding his partner after confronting her on August 2, 2024.
Aviles, a stevedore, explained in court that he received photos of his wife with another man at her new job, which led him to slap her during a heated argument. The court imposed a non-custodial sentence, fining Aviles $900 plus a $5 court fee, payable by October 3, 2024, or face six months in prison.
Following the incident, Aviles’ partner allegedly moved out to live with the other man, leaving their three children in his care. The magistrate advised Aviles to seek counseling to cope with the emotional distress he is experiencing. Despite his pain, Aviles expressed continued love for his partner but acknowledged the end of their relationship, committing to remain a devoted father to his children.
