By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former councillor and current High Court clerk, Deannie Requena, is recovering after a brutal attack, with her assailants now behind bars.
On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Requena, 24, was attacked in broad daylight at Mile 14 on the George Price Highway. The alleged assailants, 41-year-old Burton Richard Clare, a car dealer, and 21-year-old Kareem Kimar Allen, a tour guide, were apprehended and charged.
Clare faces charges of use of deadly means of harm and wounding, while Allen is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and theft. Both men appeared before the Senior Magistrate in Belize City Magistrate Court, where they were remanded to Belize Central Prison until September 30, 2024.
Requena reported that Clare and Allen stopped her vehicle, assaulted her, and stole $3,000. The police intercepted the suspects at a checkpoint, finding a knife with suspected blood on Clare and $1,700 hidden on Allen.
Requena sustained multiple stab wounds and was treated at Belize Health Care Partners Hospital. The attack reportedly stemmed from Clare blaming Requena for his brother’s imprisonment, whom she is in relationship with.
Both Clare and Allen were unrepresented in court and are currently held without bail due to the severity of their charges.
