Monies missing at Solid Waste Management Authority – Government, Police investigating

By Aaron Humes: Reliable sources within the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change say the exact figure is not certain as yet, but the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority could be out half a million dollars or more after alleged wrongdoing, now under investigation at the highest levels.

Investigations are underway by the Belize Police Department, the Ministry confirmed in a press statement this evening, but further details would not be provided not to compromise – “negatively impact” in the Ministry’s words – the investigation. Minister of Sustainable Development Orlando Habet has apprised Cabinet at today’s sitting.

The Ministry said information will be handed over to the Ministry of the Public Service and the Belize Police Department, respectively for further disciplinary action, if necessary.
