By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On August 5, 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Belize Police Department celebrated the opening of a new Santa Elena Police Station.
Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams noted that at this time, the police station has 29 police officers assigned and the team is led by Inspector Orlando Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has the support of 2 sergeants and 26 police constables and corporals.
Williams said that hopefully there will be another recruit squad soon and increase the number of police officers to 60.
“So, first phase 29 second phase 60 and then third phase we want to see it reach to at least 90 or 100 officers.”
With this station opening we are not taking away any resources from anywhere in the country other than human resources in terms of the vehicle resources and computers, desks, etc. those are provided by the ministry through our minister,” Williams noted.
The Santa Elena Police formation has their own vehicle and 2 motorcycles for patrols.
