Three held after aggravated burglary on Freetown Road; gunman killed

By Aaron Humes: Police have named the suspects involved in this morning’s aggravated burglary of a home and business on Freetown Road.

According to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, his men intercepted a taxi in the area containing two of the suspects, identified as Maleek Chavez and Leroy Garoy, while the dead man has been named as Leroy Smith, all of Taylor’s Alley, Belize City. 

“Information suggests that the three persons had gone to rob this place and in the process, the person who occupies that premises relieved the gunman of his weapon and fatally shot him. After that occurred, the [other] individuals jumped into a taxi and made good their escape. But thankfully, [with] the quick response of the police, they were able to be detained, not too far away. And, a search of them revealed the discovery of a cell phone and bangles, which are items that were stolen… And the two individuals are in custody along with the taxi man, and police are conducting interviews. We believe that they’re going to be charged.”
