By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Week 2 in the 2024-2025 Premier League of Belize Opening Season kicks off with Progresso taking on Verdes at the People Stadium in Orange Walk Town on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
Both teams are coming off victories on opening week. Progresso defeated the Bandits 3-0 last Saturday, while Verdes dumped Wagiya 7-zip on Sunday.
This coming Sunday, Bandit Sports will be hosting the San Pedro Pirates at 4:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. The Pirates are coming off a 0-0 draw against champions Port Layola while the Bandits fell to Progresso.
Meanwhile, Wagiya will tackle Port Loyola at 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday as well. Both are looking for their first victory of the competition, though Port have a point based on their scoreless draw against the San Pedro Pirates. Wagiya fell to Verdes, so they are hoping to record their first point or points of the new season.
Though the PLB hasn’t yet released the schedule, the Opening Season is expected to finish by November 10. Even with two breaks due to the Belize Men’s National Team’s international commitments, the PLB will be able to complete the season much earlier now that it only has six teams. Normally, with eight clubs, the season would end until mid-December or even later.
