Devon Sankey remanded for alleged firearm assault

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A well-known resident of Supal Street, Belize City, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being accused of assaulting a man with a firearm.

Devon Sankey, 32, an LIU Program employee, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3 today, where he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly instrument, to wit a firearm. Despite no firearm being found or additional firearm-related charges brought against him, Sankey was denied bail due to the nature of the offense under the Firearms Control and Criminal Justice Act.

The charges stem from an incident on August 7, 2024, when 37-year-old musician Rolando Reyes reported that Sankey allegedly pointed a firearm at him while he was standing on his bicycle near Curl Thompson Street. Fearing for his life, Reyes fled to the nearby Jane Usher Police Station and reported the incident.

Sankey, who pleaded not guilty, has been remanded to custody until October 2, 2024.
