Police force to be expanded by 225 officers: Cabinet gives approval

By Aaron Humes: Cabinet has announced plans for a further expansion of the Belize Police Department with another class of 225 recruits.

The Department has upwards of 1,200 officers at present, though the number fluctuates due to departures, dismissals and other effluxisons of time. In April the largest intake of officers in Belizean history at 231 passed out in Belmopan.

The Executive said this is part of an effort to bolster the police department and further its #PlanBelize objective to reduce crime and improve public safety.

The new intake will allow for the Police Department to staff a new precinct in Santa Elena Town to strengthen some of its specialized units.
