Prime Minister John Briceño comments on money lost/stolen at Solid Waste Management Authority and Dangriga Sub-Treasury

By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister and Minister of Finance John Briceño says authorities will get to the bottom of two recent financial losses to the national treasury.

Concerning the loss of funds at the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority, the Prime Minister told reporters today that an investigation is underway and those responsible will see their day in court.

However, beyond that assurance, he could not offer much more details as the investigation is underway. The Director of the Authority, he did confirm, is on a brief holiday and may be placed on administrative leave pending the result of the investigation.

The Dangriga Sub-Treasury was burgled over the weekend and a safe stolen. Police said the power to the building was cut to render the surveillance systems useless.

The Prime Minister said he concurred that someone at the Treasury may have helped the burglars get in. A police investigation continues.
