By Horace Palacio: Residents of Belize are enjoying a sunny respite today before a tropical wave, which is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms later tonight and into Friday.

The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued a forecast indicating fair weather for Thursday morning, but increasing cloudiness is expected throughout the day. Isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, becoming more frequent and widespread as the tropical wave approaches overnight.

Coastal areas can anticipate temperatures reaching 91°F (33°C) with mild winds and slight sea conditions. Inland regions will experience slightly warmer temperatures, reaching 96°F (36°C).

Mariners are advised to exercise caution as the weather deteriorates. While current conditions are favorable for boating, with light winds and calm seas, conditions are expected to worsen later tonight.

The tropical wave is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center. However, residents are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for potential heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and gusty winds.

The National Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the tropical wave progresses.
