By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Only two matches will be played this coming weekend in the 2024-2025 Premier League of Belize Opening Season as the Wagiya game slated for Sunday, August 11, at 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga has been postponed due to Port’s international commitments.
The Premier League of Belize announced on Friday morning that the match will be postponed since Port Layola FC is traveling on Sunday, August 11.
Port Layola will be traveling to El Salvador for their Concacaf Central American Cup match against El Salvador’s Águila at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The match will be played at Estadio Las Delicias in the Salvadoran city of Santa Tecla.
So far, Port have lost their first two matches played here in Belize. Last week Tuesday, July 30, they fell 4-1 to Guatemala’s Antigua GFC, and on Thursday, August 8, they were drilled 6-1 by Honduran club Olimpia.
The PLB hasn’t said yet if Port’s third season match against the Belmopan Bandits, slated for the following Sunday, August 18, will be postponed as Port will have to travel for its final Central American Cup commitment against Panama’s CA Independiente (CAI), which is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, in Panama City.
With the Port-Wagiya match postponed, that leaves only the Progresso and Bandits home games for this upcoming weekend.
Progresso will face Verdes at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town on Saturday at 7:30 pm, while the Bandits will host the San Pedro Pirates on Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
