By Horace Palacio: Belizeans should prepare for a wet and cloudy day as moist and unstable conditions prevail across the country. The National Meteorological Service has issued a forecast for widespread showers and thunderstorms, particularly affecting inland and northern areas.
Expect cloudy skies with a few sunny breaks throughout the day. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop along the coast this morning, gradually spreading inland and northward by the afternoon. The rain is expected to continue into the night and possibly tomorrow morning.
Mariners should exercise caution as winds are blowing from the east-southeast at 5-15 knots, creating choppy sea conditions with waves reaching 3-5 feet.
Temperatures will vary across the country. Coastal areas can expect highs of 87°F (31°C) and lows of 82°F (28°C). Inland regions will experience warmer temperatures, reaching 92°F (33°C) during the day and cooling down to 74°F (23°C) at night. Hilly areas will be slightly cooler, with highs of 78°F (26°C) and lows of 68°F (20°C).
The good news is that no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf of Mexico within the next 48 hours.
Saturday and Saturday night will see cloudy intervals with isolated showers. However, the south may experience a few more showers at night.
Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather information and take necessary precautions. Remember to avoid driving through flooded areas and be mindful of potential lightning strikes.
