By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On August 9, 2024, youths in Benque Viejo del Carmen concluded the Stakeholders Summer Camp 2024.
The event, which has set new records for participation and community involvement, showcased the town’s commitment to fostering youth development.
The day’s activities commenced with an opening prayer led by Pastor Kevin Tzib, followed by the National Anthem.
Mayor Jorge Rosales delivered the welcome address, setting a positive tone for the proceedings.
Community Policing Officer Ciriaco Medina provided an insightful overview of the camp, giving attendees a glimpse into the camp’s impact and achievements.
Manuel Mendez, representing the Cayo West Area, offered the first remarks of the day.
PC Evelin Duarte introduced the guest speaker, Suzette Anderson, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Western Regional Commander.
Anderson’s address highlighted the importance of community engagement and the positive influence of such initiatives on local youth.
A highlight of the day was the presentation of certificates and school bags to all 99 participating youths, acknowledging their involvement and achievements throughout the camp.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Jesus Palma, Officer Commanding Benque Viejo Police Formation.
The camp’s success was attributed to the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including parents, local businesses, and the broader community.
Special thanks were extended to the parents who entrusted their children to the police, those who assisted throughout the camp, and the business community for their generous support.
