United States win 5th consecutive gold in Olympic basketball with 98-87 win over France

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Steph Curry scored four consecutive three-pointers in the last three minutes to lead the United States to their fifth consecutive gold medal in the Olympic basketball tournament with a 98-87 win over hosts France, who had to settle for a second consecutive silver.

Curry led the United States with 24 points and five assists. Kevin Durant scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, and made four assists. LeBron James accounted for 14 points, six rebounds, and ten assists. Devin Booker scored 15 points, collected six rebounds, and made three assists.

France’s Victor Wembanyama was the Final’s top scorer with 26 points. He added seven rebounds and two assists. Guerschon Yabusele netted 20 points and grabbed two rebounds.

Serbia won bronze, defeating Germany 93-83 earlier on Saturday.

Since basketball became an official Olympic sport in 1936, the United States have won 17 of 20 tournaments, with eight in the last nine Olympics.
