By Horace Palacio: The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is in a state of mourning following the passing of Ambassador Lorne McDonnough, CD, on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Ambassador McDonnough leaves behind a legacy of distinguished service to the Caribbean region. He notably served as the first Chief Executive Officer of the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF). In this role, he oversaw various programs aimed at providing financial and technical assistance to disadvantaged countries, regions, and sectors within the Community.

His contributions extended beyond the regional stage, as he represented Jamaica as a career diplomat at both the hemispheric and international levels, further demonstrating his commitment to service and diplomacy.

The Community recognizes the profound impact of Ambassador McDonnough’s broad expertise in advancing and strengthening the regional integration movement. His dedication to the Caribbean cause was unwavering, and his loss will be deeply felt.

CARICOM extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife, family members, the Government of Jamaica, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his distinguished career.
