Elderly man fined $25 after being found drunk in public

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 59-year-old resident of Lemonal Village has been fined after being found drunk in a public place earlier this week. Sherman Llewellyn Banner, who spent the weekend in custody, was charged with a single count of “found drunk” and brought to court in a prison van on Friday.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 3, 2024, when Banner was discovered intoxicated on Bermudian Landing Road. He was detained by authorities and later charged for the offense.

In court, Banner, who was unrepresented, appeared before a Magistrate and pleaded guilty to the charge. “Guilty because I was found drunk,” he admitted.

As a first-time offender, Banner was fined $25.00, along with an additional $5.00 court fee. He has until August 30, 2024, to pay the fine. If he fails to do so, he will face one week of imprisonment.
