By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 26-year-old man on parole has been sent back to prison after being charged with theft for stealing a pack of bread and a beer from a friend. Roy Tillett, also known as “Kevin Dawson,” was arraigned late Tuesday evening at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he faced a single charge of theft.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 5, 2024, in Burrell Boom Village. According to police reports, Tillett, who was out on parole, stole a pack of bread valued at $2.25 and a Mine Beer valued at $5.00 from his friend, a construction worker from the same village.
His friend reported the incident to the Burrell Boom Sub Police Station at around 9:10 p.m. that evening. He told police that he had been at Ice Cold Store with Tillett earlier that day. Upon leaving the store, Crawford said Tillett began demanding money from him. When Crawford refused, Tillett allegedly threatened him, saying, “Boy, give me $5.00 or you want I rob yuh?”
As the friend tried to walk away, Tillett reportedly grabbed the bag containing Crawford’s groceries. During the struggle, the bag fell to the ground, and Tillett seized the bread and beer before fleeing the scene. Fearing for his safety, Crawford immediately reported the incident to the police.
Tillett, who was unrepresented in court, pleaded not guilty to the theft charge but was denied bail. As a parolee, he has been returned to Belize Central Prison to serve the remaining eight months of his sentence.
