Premier League of Belize: Progresso break down Green Machine 1-0, lead PLB

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso recorded their second victory in the 2024-2025 Premier League of Belize (PLB) Opening Season, defeating Verdes, the Green Machine, 1-0 at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town on Saturday, August 10.

In a very tight match, Richard Gillett scored the only goal in the 85^th minute.

“CONGRATULATIONS PROGRESSO FC ON YOUR BIG WIN! We appreciate the good football,” Verdes wrote in a social media post on Sunday. “Last night the better team won and we will keep working. We have no option but to make the necessary adjustments for the next match. We will get better.”

Progresso now have six points from two wins and have taken over the lead in the PLB, while Verdes, with three points from one win and one loss, dropped to third place.

In the only other match of the second PLB weekend, the San Pedro Pirates crushed the Belmopan Bandits 4-0 on Sunday evening at San Pedro’s Ambergris Stadium on Sunday, August 11.

The game between Wagiya and Port Layola was postponed as Port had to travel to El Salvador. On Sunday for the Central American Cup match against Águila on Wednesday.
