By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Pirates are back with a vengeance after a one-year hiatus, pounding the Belmopan Bandits 4-0 at San Pedro’s Ambergris Stadium on Sunday, August 11 in the 2024-2025 Premier League of Belize (PLB) Opening Season.
Last week, San Pedro held champions Port Layola to a 0-0 draw at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City. Getting into gear, they proved too much for the Belmopan Bandits.
Tyrese Augustine opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Shedrick Swaso increased the lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute. Ian Pou, Jr., made it 3-0 in the 71st, while Moisés Hernández hammered in the fourth in the 78th.
“We held up in the first half down by only one. Then it fell apart in the second half,” the Bandits said in a social media post.
“Good game anyway, youths!!”
The Pirates, now with four points from a win and a draw, moved up to second place, while the Bandits remain in last (6th) place with two losses.
In the only other match of the second PLB weekend, Progresso nipped Verdes 1-0 on Saturday.
The game between Wagiya and Port Layola was postponed as Port had to travel to El Salvador on Sunday for the Central American Cup match against Águila on Wednesday.
