By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize congratulated Belmopan’s Jewel Fury for securing the first-ever Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) national championship.
Jewel Fury captured the first Premier Women’s League of Belize Opening Championship on Saturday night with a 2-0 aggregate triumph over Sagitun GIRLZ in the second leg of the Finals at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. The teams had played to a 0-0 deadlock in the first leg at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence the previous Saturday.
“Congratulations to Jewel Fury FC on being the Champions of the first-ever Premier Women’s League of Belize, their names will go down in history!” the FFB said in a social media post on Sunday.
“The Football Federation of Belize is proud to continue its investments in the development of Women’s Football in the country! Tonight was a true demonstration of the skills and talent of our Belize Women footballers!”
Shendra Ophelia Casimiro scored the two goals that clinched Jewel Fury’s first PWLB title.
Before the 2024-2025 PWLB Opening Season, Belizean clubs competed in the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL).
The Sagitun GIRLZ were the final champions of the NAWL and recently represented Belize in the Central American Women’s Cup in Guatemala City. Prior to the Sagitun GIRLZ, Jewel Fury had also represented Belize in the regional tournament as previous NAWL champions.
