By Horace Palacio: While generally fair weather prevails across Belize, a tropical wave approaching the country is expected to bring an increase in showers and thunderstorms, particularly over the south and along the coast tonight. The National Meteorological Service of Belize issued a morning forecast a short while ago highlighting the changing weather patterns and the potential impact of Potential Tropical Cyclone #5.
As of 6:00 AM today, cloudy spells are expected throughout the day and night. Isolated showers or thunderstorms may occur today, intensifying tonight as the tropical wave nears. Marine conditions remain relatively calm, with easterly winds at 5-10 knots and a light chop. Temperatures vary across the country, with coastal areas experiencing highs of 89°F (32°C) and lows of 82°F (28°C). Inland regions can expect warmer temperatures, reaching 95°F (35°C) during the day and cooling down to 74°F (23°C) at night.
Potential Tropical Cyclone #5, currently located about 525 miles east-southeast of Antigua, is moving westward at 26 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. The system is being closely monitored, and its potential impact on Belize is being assessed. The outlook for Tuesday and Tuesday night includes the possibility of a few showers and thunderstorms over most areas.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay updated on the latest weather information and take necessary precautions. While the current weather is generally fair, the approaching tropical wave and the potential cyclone warrant vigilance. Secure loose objects, prepare emergency kits, and review evacuation plans if necessary.
