By Aaron Humes: The William Dawson Sprite Basketball Tournament 2024 has been an exhilarating display of athleticism, sportsmanship, and fierce competition. Over the past four weeks, 260 talented and driven basketball players have taken the court, embodying the words of Harry Sheehy, “It is your response to winning and losing that makes you a winner or a loser.”

As the tournament progresses, it continues to be a beacon of inspiration for young athletes, fostering a sense of community, excellence, and determination. The William Dawson Sprite Basketball Tournament 2024 stands as a testament to the power of sports in shaping and empowering the next generation of basketball stars.

The tournament, held at the Yabra Green basketball court, has witnessed remarkable growth and development among the participants. Despite the occasional challenge, the event has been a resounding success, drawing in a total of one hundred and ninety dedicated young men from across the Belize District.

On Saturday, Lords Bank’s Blazing Warriors beat Sandhill 38-31; Caesar Ridge Cruisers 31-20 2.0 BZE; Kelly Street 41, Fort George 35; Hard Rock 45, Boom Ballers 41; Survivors 39, Balling Bulldogs 24; Blvd. Ballers 42, 501 Falcons 35.

On Sunday, it was Team Naz 41, Peace Makers 22; Tora Bora 34, Western Paradise Ballers 24; I.G. 48, Rockville Hard Knocks 20; Third World Ballers won by default over The Legends; Mahogany Heights 42, Trench Town 37, and Orange Court Generals 50, Freetown Hittaz 47.

Games continue at the Yabra Green basketball court on August 17 and 18, with the first games commencing at 8:30 am on both days.
