BREAKING: Record prices announced for 2024/25 citrus crop by Citrus Products of Belize Limited (CPBL)

By Aaron Humes: Ahead of the 2024-2025 processing season, Citrus Products of Belize Limited (CPBL) has written to the leading citrus growers associations announcing what are believed to be record prices for boxes of orange and grapefruit.

Each will be paid at $22 per box, but the price per pound solid will be $5.50 for grapefruit and $3.86 rounded up for oranges.

Like in the sugar industry, citrus growers are paid in three installments, with the first advance payment of 65 percent of total price due on delivery. The second payment of 85 percent of the total price is due by the end of March for grapefruit and June for oranges and the remainder by September. 

This year’s prices surpass those of last season which stood at $18 per box, a boon for an industry that has been beset by labour and disease issues.
