By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Quality Control Officer from Cotton Tree Village, Javan Akeem Arnold, 20, was fined $255 on Monday after pleading guilty to possession of an illegal blade. Arnold appeared in Court #2, where he admitted to carrying a 3.5-inch knife in his front pocket on Albert Hoy Street, Belize City, on August 10, 2024.
Arnold explained that he had traveled from Placencia to Belize City and was unaware of the restrictions on carrying a blade at night. He stated that he used the knife for work-related purposes, such as opening boxes. Despite his explanation, the court accepted his guilty plea.
As a first-time offender, Arnold was spared jail time and fined $250 plus a $5 court fee. He has until September 30, 2024, to pay the fine or face three months in prison. The court also ordered the confiscation of the knife by the Government of Belize.
