Showers and thunderstorms to continue across Belize today

By Horace Palacio: Belizeans and visitors can expect another day of cloudy skies, scattered showers, and thunderstorms as a tropical wave continues to pass over the region. The National Meteorological Service of Belize issued a forecast for today, August 13, 2024, warning of unsettled weather conditions for the next 24 to 36 hours.

While a few sunny breaks may peek through the clouds today, the overall picture is of overcast skies and intermittent showers. There may be more widespread thunderstorm activity in the morning, gradually decreasing by the afternoon.

Tonight, the showers and thunderstorms will become more isolated, primarily affecting the southern and coastal areas of the country.

Mariners should be aware of light chop and 2-4 foot waves due to easterly winds blowing at 5-15 knots.

Temperatures will remain warm, reaching highs in the low 90s inland and low 80s along the coast.

As of 6:00 am today, Tropical Storm Ernesto was located about 35 miles northwest of Guadeloupe, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. The storm is moving west at 18 mph.

Wednesday morning may see some lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms, but conditions are expected to improve by the evening.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and advisories, especially as Tropical Storm Ernesto continues its westward track.
