By Horace Palacio: Belizeans and visitors can expect a decrease in showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 to 48 hours as moist and unstable conditions begin to subside. The National Meteorological Service forecasts a mainly fair weather pattern for Thursday and Thursday night, with only isolated showers or thunderstorms expected, primarily in the southern regions.
As of 6:00 AM today, Tropical Storm Ernesto was located approximately 125 miles northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico, with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. The storm is currently moving northwest at 16 mph. While Ernesto is not expected to directly impact Belize, its presence in the Caribbean serves as a reminder of the ongoing Atlantic hurricane season.
Temperatures along the coast today will range from a high of 88°F (31°C) to a low of 83°F (28°C). Inland areas can expect warmer conditions, with highs reaching 92°F (33°C) and lows dipping to 74°F (23°C).
Marine conditions will remain relatively calm, with easterly winds blowing at 5-15 knots and light chop creating waves of 2-4 feet.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and to take necessary precautions as the hurricane season continues.
