By Aaron Humes: As we reported a month ago, Belizeans are expressing mounting frustration over a year-long delay in the issuance of license plates, stickers, and driver’s licenses, blaming incompetence within the Transport Department for the crisis that has hindered cross-border travel and commerce.
On Thursday, the DOT responded to say they have successfully procured a new supply of license plates and stickers and invite all individuals with private motor vehicles who have yet to receive their license plates or stickers to visit the DoT offices in their respective districts beginning today, Thursday, August 15. Once receipt of payment is provided, the staff will assist each citizen in obtaining the required items promptly.
The Department further sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the recent unavailability of license plates and stickers. The Department fully understands how crucial timely access to these items are, and deeply regrets any disruptions this may have caused to valued citizens.
The Department of Transport remains fully committed to enhancing service delivery to the public. They express their appreciation for the public’s understanding and cooperation as they work to resolve the matter and ensure a more efficient process moving forward.
The delay was reported to be as much as a year long.
