By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As he takes over the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT), new Head Coach Charlie Slusher has called 28 players for the Concacaf Nations League 2024 September matches Belize will have in League C’s Group B against Turks & Caicos Islands and Anguilla.

In a departure from the norm and in his bid to revamp the BMNT, Slusher is calling up six amateur-level players and 22 from the Premier League of Belize (PLB).

Slusher inherits a demoralized team that struggled under previous coach David Pérez from Spain, leading to their relegation from Concacaf’s League B to League C. Slusher is now tasked with getting Belize promoted back to League B.

The FFB said the intensive training, which gets underway on Monday, August 19 at the FFB Headquarters in Belmopan, will concentrate “on refining tactics, enhancing fitness, and building team cohesion ahead of the league’s competition.” Ahead of the September matches, the BMNT is to meet at the FFB from August 19-21 and 26-28.

The League C games will be played at a centralized venue, the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) National Academy in Providenciales, in both September and October. Next month’s games will see Belize face Turks and Caicos Islands on September 7 and Anguilla on September 10. Group B’s opening match will feature Anguilla against Turks and Caicos Islands on Wednesday, September 4.

Concacaf has yet to confirm the October schedule. All games will kick off at 3:00 pm (1:00 pm Belize time).
