Concacaf Central American Cup: Scoreless Port Layola match against Panama’s CA Independiente restarted after 40-minute thunderstorm delay

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 0-0 CONCACAF Central American Cup match between Belizean champions Port Layola and Panamanian Club Atletico Independiente (CAI) just resumed at 5:57 pm (6:57 pm Panama time) after a 40-minute delay due to a thunderstorm in Panama City. With the score tied at nil-nil, the match had just resumed for the beginning of the second half when action was called off due to thunder and lightning that accompanied torrential rain at the Rommel Fernandez Stadium in Panama.

The match, which started at 4:00 pm (5:00 pm Panama time), should have already been over. At 5:52 pm, the game officials, led by the commissar and Mexican referee Katia Garcia, stepped on the pitch, while it was still raining, to check the conditions to see if the match could continue. CAI and Port Layola players returned to the pitch a few minutes later, did a couple of warm-up exercises, and play restarted at 5:57 pm.

This is the final match for Port Layola, who have lost their first three matches by lopsided scores to Antigua of Guatemala, Olimpia of Honduras, and Águila of El Salvador. CAI have also lost their first two matches.
