By Rubén Morales Iglesias:

Nineteen-year-old Chelsy Castro lit up the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts in Belize City on Tuesday night as she clinched the win in KTV the Remix Season 6. Castro outperformed Flor Augustin and Elijah Norales to capture the $10,000 grand prize.

“I almost dropped out, but I really wanted to push for it,” Castro said, according to KTV organizer Channel 5.

Castro, who started singing at nine, said on Channel 5’s Open Your Eyes that she had no sponsor until the final stage of the weeks-long competition. She added that she performed at nightclubs and several events to gain votes and fans, while she continued studying business management and working at Belizean Melody Art Gallery in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Being known only in San Pedro, Castro told Channel 5 that she worked hard so all of Belize would get to know her.

“Thank you all who have supported, motivated and believed in me. This journey has been my most absolute favorite and a memory I won’t forget! I’m glad I made many of you proud but I wouldn’t be here without the help of the voters and sponsors, so thank you!,” Castro said in a social media post.

“Thank you so much for making this dream possible! Although KTV the remix season 6 has ended, this is just the beginning for me!”

Second-place Agustin also expressed gratitude.

“Just wanna say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me reach all this way,” second-place Flor Agustin said in a social media post when she made the Top 4.

“I’ve never imagined reaching this far.”

Third-place Norales was also thankful.

“Thank you all for the support throughout the competition, you trusted me, you believed in me and in the end, I came in 3rd place!!!” Norales said.

“It’s been a long, long journey and honestly I didn’t think I would have made it this far! Everyone who supported my journey, thank you!”

Norales also congratulated all participants, particularly Castro and Agustin saying they were ‘truly amazing’.
