By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Beacon Softball Club from Belize City is on the hunt for their third consecutive Women’s National Softball Championship this weekend. The Belize Softball Federation’s (BSF) XXXII Women’s National Softball Championship starts in Sandhill on Friday evening at Sandhill in the Belize District, running from August 30 to September 1.

The Beacon Softball Club, who clinched the national title in both 2022 and 2023, is determined to defend their crown. Last year, they secured their second back-to-back championship by narrowly defeating the Camalote Playchunes Girls 4-3, with MVP Kristy Terry driving in the winning run. In 2022, they triumphed over Belmopan’s Play Chunes with a 5-2 victory, led by pitcher Shadalee Ho, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The tournament begins at 6:30 pm on Friday at the Sandhill Softball Field, with the Esperanza Wolverines facing the Belize Rural Bulldogs. Following that game, the Orange Walk Palmar Jaguars will challenge the defending champions, Beacon Softball Club, at 8:00 pm.

“The wait is over! The Defending National Champions Beacon Softball Club is ready to light up the field once again at the National Tournament,” the Beacon Softball Club said in a social media post on Friday.

“Come out and show your support for the reigning champs as we fight to defend our title! Let’s go, Beacon!”

Saturday’s action starts at 9:00 am with Orange Walk’s Elite taking on Belize Rural’s Unity. In Game 4, Belize City’s Wolfpack will compete against Roaring Creek’s Grace Kennedy. The day will feature five more games, starting with the losing teams facing each other and followed by the winning teams matching up against each other.

The tournament concludes on Sunday with the final six games. Due to current weather conditions, the BSF has stated it will continue to monitor the situation closely.

The Beacon Softball Club is poised to make history with a third consecutive championship win.
