Belizeans urged to stay vigilant as hurricane season continues

Posted: Sunday, September 1, 2024. 3:45 pm CST.

By Horace Palacio: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring three areas of potential development in the Atlantic basin. While none currently pose a direct threat to Belize, their progress is worth keeping an eye on.

A disorganized area of low pressure off the upper Texas coast is causing showers and thunderstorms. Though there is potential for slow development over the next few days, heavy rains could result in flash flooding in parts of coastal Louisiana and Texas.

A tropical wave located east of the Lesser Antilles remains poorly organized but is expected to bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall to the islands on Monday. As it moves into the Caribbean Sea later this week, conditions may become favorable for the formation of a tropical depression.

A tropical wave is forecasted to move off the western coast of Africa by Monday. Gradual development is possible as it tracks westward over the eastern Atlantic throughout the week.

Breaking Belize News encourages everyone to stay informed with the latest weather updates and to have their hurricane preparedness plans ready.
