By Horace Palacio: Two police officers are facing serious charges after an alleged violent encounter with a civilian in southern Belize. The incident occurred on Friday, August 31st, in the village of Trio. The 30-year-old victim reported that he was riding his bike when he was stopped by two police officers. He alleges that the officers physically assaulted him with a firearm and fired shots in his direction.
Following an investigation into the victim’s report, authorities arrested and charged 41-year-old Special Constable Jose Oscar Sanchez and 34-year-old Police Officer Victor Sho on Tuesday, September 3rd.
Sanchez faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Wounding, and Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol. Sho has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Wounding.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
