By Horace Palacio: Belizeans are advised to prepare for wet weather as moist and unstable conditions are expected to persist over the next few days. The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued a forecast predicting mostly cloudy to overcast skies with scattered showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain affecting the country, particularly in the northern and central regions.
The heaviest activity is anticipated tonight, especially over the southern and coastal areas. Residents are urged to exercise caution and be mindful of potential flooding and localized disruptions.
Marine conditions will also be affected, with easterly to northeasterly winds blowing at 5 to 15 knots, creating choppy seas with waves reaching 3 to 5 feet. A Small Craft Caution has been issued due to the possibility of gusty winds and rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures will remain warm, with coastal areas experiencing highs of 86°F (30°C) and lows of 79°F (26°C). Inland areas can expect highs of 88°F (31°C) and lows of 72°F (22°C), while the hills will see highs of 79°F (26°C) and lows of 67°F (19°C).
The National Meteorological Service is closely monitoring a tropical wave moving westward across the central Caribbean Sea. While some development is possible later this week or early next week, no tropical cyclone formation is expected within the next 48 hours.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of unsettled weather.
