By Horace Palacio: Oscar Mira, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defense and Border Security, recently led a delegation of Belize Defence Force (BDF) officials on a visit to Jamaica. The delegation toured several key Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) installations, highlighting a focus on strengthening collaboration and integration between the two nations.
Accompanied by Col. Anthony Velasquez, Deputy Commander of the BDF, and Maj. Kenroy Smith, Commanding Officer of the BDF Air Wing, Minister Mira visited the JDF’s Joint Intelligence and Operations Center, the Caribbean Military Academy (CMA) Headquarters, and the CMA School of Aviation, from which 2Lt Puerto recently graduated.
The visit emphasized Belize and Jamaica’s commitment to strengthening their already strong relationship, with both nations viewing increased integration and collaboration between their defense forces as vital to tackling shared security challenges.
This visit follows a series of joint training exercises and exchanges between the BDF and JDF, demonstrating a shared vision for regional security and cooperation. It is expected that the visit will lead to new initiatives and partnerships that will further strengthen the defense capabilities of both nations.
