By Horace Palacio: Belize is in for a soggy start to September as a tropical wave sweeps across the Caribbean, bringing widespread showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain. The National Meteorological Service (NMS) has issued a 24-hour forecast predicting mostly cloudy skies and outbreaks of heavy rainfall across the country.
The moist and unstable conditions dominating the area are expected to persist throughout Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from a balmy 85°F on the coast to a cooler 78°F in the hills. Marine conditions will also be affected, with moderate sea states and waves reaching 4-6 feet.
Residents are urged to take precautions as the NMS continues to monitor the progression of the tropical wave. While some development is possible in the coming days as the system moves over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, no tropical cyclone formation is expected within the next 48 hours.
The outlook for Friday offers a glimmer of hope, with a gradual decrease in rainfall expected by Friday night. However, until then, Belizeans should brace themselves for several outbreaks of showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain.
